Observe with purpose
Develop tools that help researchers and project teams better understand bird activity in real environments.

Our approach
Renewable energy and thriving birdlife belong in the same future. We’re working to help make that future possible.
Australian innovation. Wildlife first.
Our purpose
AvianShield brings a wildlife-first perspective to technology development. We are interested in what birds can teach us about the places we share, and how clearer observations can support better environmental decisions.
We work at the meeting point of practical technology, scientific research and conservation. The aim is straightforward: help people make informed choices as Australia’s renewable energy future takes shape.

How we approach the work
Develop tools that help researchers and project teams better understand bird activity in real environments.
Bring engineering, field experience and ecological knowledge into the same conversation.
Support decisions grounded in evidence, with wildlife conservation and sustainable energy in view.
Our work is progressing through research and field testing.
Australian experience
Years of practical experience, applied to a new conservation challenge.
The team’s background spans business management, networks and camera technology in demanding Australian environments. Today, that experience is helping shape a research-led approach to wildlife monitoring.
AvianShield is developed by HoekSec.
Meet the people behind the purposeA little more about us
AvianShield is an Australian initiative using AI-powered cameras to detect birds and track their movement in flight. Our work supports a better understanding of bird activity around renewable energy and other development sites.
Birds connect habitats, communities and countries. Learning more about their movements and behaviour can help bring wildlife conservation into decisions about our changing landscapes.
Bird detection and flight tracking are working in the field. We are expanding these capabilities with mapped locations and reporting, while developing mitigation approaches and offshore surveying and monitoring solutions. Research and field evaluation continue to guide the work.
We are building local libraries of Australian birds found in and around each project area. This imagery helps train and refine AI models for species identification, guided by field observations and specialist bird knowledge.
No. It is a selection of familiar birds, threatened native species and migratory visitors. The birds found at any location depend on its habitats, region and seasons.
